Visitors who tour a McWane Ductile facility are often surprised by how much work goes into making Ductile iron pipe. The pipe starts out as scrap metal from old cars and demolished buildings that is melted down and given a new lease on life. Up to 95% of our product is made from recycled material.
Once this metal is in its molten state a crane carries it to centrifugal casting machines where it is spun into a pipe. Next it heads to the annealing oven, an important step in transforming the iron into ductile.
McWane Ductile pioneered the use of baghouses beginning in 2005. All 3 McWane Ductile foundries use state of the art cupola air pollution control systems.
Many of you may have had the opportunity to attend the AWWA/ACE 18 Conference held in Las Vegas just a few weeks ago. Among the many highlights of that show is the Annual Pipe Tapping Contest.
The participants consist of both US and International teams that are selected through a qualifying process where they would have competed in various regional or sectional events held throughout the preceding year.
